Part of the route around the Meadows to be taken by participants in Bute's community fun run on Sunday, March 13.

The first community fun run to take place on Bute for many years is now just one day away.

This Sunday’s event aims to do three things: to encourage people on the island to get a little bit of exercise at their own pace, to promote the range of fitness, wellbeing and sporting opportunities available on Bute, and to raise money for the campaign to set up a local unit for island residents suffering from kidney failure.

All proceeds from the event - which is being organised by Rothesay’s community sport hub - will go to the Dialysis Unit for Bute campaign, who will be present on the day to run a tombola stall and to take in sponsorship money and donations.

If you haven’t registered yet, you can still do so on the day - just make sure you’re at Bute Shinty Club at the Meadows in Rothesay by 1pm in time for a 1.30pm start.

The mile-long route for the run (also open to those who would prefer to jog or walk!) starts at the shinty clubhouse and follows the established footpaths past the back of Rothesay’s old tennis courts, along Lovers’ Walk and alongside the Lade, and you can complete one, two or three circuits - the distance covered, and the pace you do it at, is entirely up to you. We’ll see you there!
