John McGhee appointed chair of Bute Marketing and Tourism

THE chairman of Bute Community Land Company, John McGhee, has been appointed as the new chair of Bute Marketing and Tourism Ltd.

In his first act as BMTL chair, Mr McGhee, a QC specialising in property development and commercial work, has organised a meeting of local business people, to take place at the United Church of Bute hall in Rothesay’s High Street on Tuesday, August 16 at 6.30pm.

At Tuesday’s meeting Mr McGhee and the island’s local development officer Ciara Wilson will explain what the organisation, which operates under the trading name of VisitBute, hopes to do to market the island and increase tourist numbers.

“The most important thing is to have a coherent tourism strategy for the island,” Mr McGhee told us.

“Ciara presented a draft marketing strategy to the board of VisitBute on Tuesday evening, and it was unanimously approved as the direction we should be going in.

“The aim of this Tuesday’s meeting is to introduce people to what we’re trying to achieve and to the importance of all coming together to achieve it.”
