Island charity faces a fight for survival

BUTE Community Links, the body which represents and supports a range of community groups on the island, is battling for its future after being expelled from a partnership of ‘third sector’ groups in Argyll and Bute - and losing access to its only source of funding as a result.

The organisation was kicked out of the Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface (TSI) earlier this month for failing to comply with its contractual duty to provide statistical returns about its activities.

Bill McQueen, who has taken over as BCL’s chief executive on an unpaid basis, said this week that the consequences of the move could be “pretty disastrous” - not just for BCL itself, but for the charitable and voluntary groups on the island which rely on BCL for administrative support.
