Inverkip chimney falls

The tallest free-standing structure in Scotland - Inverkip Power Station’s chimney - was reduced to rubble in two controlled explosions on Sunday night.

The chimney - standing at over 700ft - was demolished at 10pm, with two sets of explosions (one at the base, and one halfway up) one second apart, and the event drew crowds of considerable size on Bute as well as the mainland.

The chimney - the last remaining part of Inverkip Power Station - was demolished on Sunday evening in two controlled explosions.

The video above was filmed by former Rothesay Academy pupil Catriona Cameron, who was on the shoreline along from the site, and gives some indication of the noise caused by the explosions.
