The Duke of Rothesay was given a warm welcome during his visit to Bute Fabrics today (Friday, June 24).

As we reported recently, Prince Charles had been invited to visit the island firm to find out more about the business and its educational opportunities following a discussion with Bute Fabrics’ managing director, John Glen, earlier this year at Dumfries House.

Upon arrival at the Meadows by helicopter, the Duke was brought to Bute Fabrics’ mill in Barone Road where he was met by Mr Glen and the Bute Fabrics team.

A welcoming reception which included a highland dancing display by some of the island’s talented young dancers started the visit off on a happy note, following which the Duke was given a tour of the mill where he spoke with staff in each of the firm’s various departments.

Representatives from the island’s schools, sports clubs and other organisations were also in attendance and seemed delighted to speak with the Duke about their activities.
