Bute SNP councillor Isobel Strong has spoken publicly for the first time about her decision not to stand at the next local authority election in 2017.

Councillor Strong, who underwent major heart surgery in 2013, told The Buteman she had already announced her decision in SNP circles.

“Considering my age, and my recent poor health, I don’t think it’s fair to the people of the ward to have someone who is not one hundred per cent fit to do all the work in representing them, dealing with their problems and formulating policy for the area,” she said.
