Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of highly-respected football coach Jim Ross at the United Church of Bute in Rothesay on Tuesday.

Among those who paid tribute to Jim, who died suddenly at his home in Craigmore on March 18 at the age of 76, was Dundee midfielder Jim McAlister, the highest-profile product of the Bute Soccer Club, run by Jim at the Moat Centre between 1982 and 2011.

“It’s difficult to put into words the impact this wonderful man has had on so many people in all walks of life,” Jim McAlister said.

“Nothing gave us more satisfaction than reporting back to our coach, and seeing the pride on his face that his faith in us had paid off.”

Jim Ross’s lifelong friend Jackie Kane called him “a peculiar genius” and said he had “an abundance of love - he loved all the people he coached and worked with.”
