Argyll and Bute’s adult protection committee has produced a range of new leaflets and posters to tell people how to keep adults safe from harm.
The new leaflets will be launched this Monday, September 23, and will be widely available throughout Argyll and Bute.
The local adult protection committee is made up of senior staff from Argyll and Bute Council, NHS Highland, Police Scotland and other organisations involved in protecting adults who are not able to protect themselves, and the new publicity advises what to do if you or someone you know is being harmed.
Cleland Sneddon, Argyll and Bute Council’s executive director for community services, said: “It is almost five years since the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 came into force, but clearly there is a way to go yet in raising awareness with the general public and also with professionals who see vulnerable adults in the course of their work.
“The leaflets will play a vital role in sending out the message to the most vulnerable adults in Argyll and Bute that they can get help if they are being harmed, and in reminding the public that if they are worried that someone is at risk of harm they should report it.”
In March 2013 the APC was congratulated by the Scottish Government’s minister for public health, Michael Matheson MSP, for the wide range of work that has been undertaken in Argyll and Bute to raise awareness amongst the public of adult protection issues.
The independent chair of the APC, Bill Brackenridge, said: “The new leaflets and posters are aimed at increasing understanding and giving support to people who may not know when and how to get help for themselves or someone they know.
“In the next few weeks the new publicity will be delivered to a large number of offices and public buildings across Argyll and Bute.
“The Adult Protection Committee hopes that local businesses will be willing to display them. If you can help by displaying the leaflets and posters, please get in touch.’
