A two-year-old Highland bull owned and bred by Ronald ‘Scooby’ McMillan of Little Grenach was crowned ‘champion of champions’ at Bute Agricultural Society’s annual show in Rothesay on Wednesday.

Bob of Isle of Bute saw off competition for the show’s top title from the prime stock champion owned by Robert and Paula McAlister of Langalbuinoch, Alan and Jean Kennedy of Largievrechtan and their champion Friesian dairy cow, the champion Clydesdale horse shown by Agnes Jackson of The Boat near Biggar, Laura and David McMillan of Kerrycrusach and their light horse champion Calon Pennal Heart of Gold, and the blackfaced sheep owned by J. McPherson of Balliemeanoch who won the sheep champion prize.

Despite a smaller entry than usual, the show remained as big an attraction for the public as in previous years, with large crowds gathering to see the island’s agricultural community at its best.

More from the show on this website over the coming days - and in the August 21 issue of The Buteman.
