A new walking group has been set up on Bute, designed to encourage more people to get out and about on the island.

‘Stepping Out Bute’, which currently meets on Thursdays at 11am outside the Discovery Centre, offers a warm welcome to walkers of all ages and abilities, with the guarantee of a friendly and sociable time.

The voluntary group has a number of ‘walk leaders’ who’ve been trained to head-up the walks, which will last on average between 30 minutes to an hour. No special clothing is required - all that is asked is that you dress for the weather. Another plus is that the group is free to join!

A ‘launch walk’ is in the pipeline for May, with the group walking the Tramway from Cnoc-an-raer to Ettrick Bay and back.

If you’re interested in joining or finding out more about ‘Stepping Out Bute’, coordinator Sheena Gill would be delighted to hear from you. Just email sheenagill@yahoo.co.uk, or alternatively head along to the meeting point outside the Discovery Centre on Thursdays at 11am.
