NHS Highland has denied that any decision has been taken to reduce the number of beds at the Victoria Hospital in Rothesay.

Bute Community Council member Kevin Bye told the organisation’s June meeting that staff had apparently been told the number of beds at the island’s hospital was to be reduced to five or six, and that nurses would be redeployed to provide more care in the community.

However, a spokesperson from NHS Highland said: “We can reassure the community that there has been no decision taken to reduce the number of beds in the hospital.”
