Bute resident Marion Murdoch has raised £400 for Alzheimer Scotland as a result of a 40-mile sponsored cycle ride in Perth recently.

Marion, who only took up cycling at the start of this year, completed the 63km course, which started and finished at Scone Palace, in two hours and 55 minutes - just inside her three-hour target.

The event was the first visit to Scotland by Cycletta, the UK’s leading series of women-only bike rides, supported by Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton and giving participants the chance to raise money for a charity of their choice.

“I just decided to buy a new bike and get out there,” Marion said. “Now I get out around the island at least once a week. I have family affected by the condition, so when I heard about the Cycletta I decided to take part to help Alzheimer Scotland.”
