The window of Montague Street’s Cancer Research UK shop came to life at the weekend, with ‘living mannequins’ raising awareness of this year’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign.

While not intended as a fund-raiser, an impromptu bucket placed on the pavement collected £117, and one amazingly generous lady donated £300, which shop manager Anna Harrison and her team would love to say thank you for publicly. Anna added, “She knows who she is!”

There’s a whole host of activities which island residents can get behind in the run up to the main event on Friday, October 16, which will see participants form the shape of the CRUK logo in Guildford Square for the island’s biggest-ever photocall.

On Saturday, October 17, the island’s cadets will be holding a car wash for Stand Up to Cancer, during the October school holidays Ettrick Bay Tearoom will be donating 40p (match-funded by the Tearoom) for every pudding sold, the Grapes Bar will be holding a bingo and quiz afternoon on Sunday, October 11 from 3pm, and a treasure-hunt around the town during the school break (£3 entry) will see a prize donated from Print Point up for grabs.

For the treasure hunt, just pop into the Cancer Research UK shop in Montague Street to get started.
