IN PICTURES: Bute’s world record for Stand Up To Cancer

Bute’s world record ceilidh on Saturday raised more than £2,000 for Stand Up To Cancer - taking the total raised on the island this year for the cause to more than five thousand pounds.

Three hundred and six people took part in Saturday afternoon’s ceilidh - the largest ever held in a single venue - in Rothesay’s Guildford Square to raise money for the charity appeal, which received more than £14.5 million in donations during the course of a night of themed TV programmes on Channel 4 on Friday.

This selection of pictures gives a flavour of the atmosphere in Guildford Square on Saturday afternoon, when a total of £2,047.07 was donated to the appeal, adding to more than £3,000 already raised at a bag pack, gunge bath, car wash and on the last day of the autumn term at Rothesay Joint Campus.
