Former Rothesay Academy pupil Ruth McClean has raised more than £1,000 for charity on a gruelling 350-mile cycle ride through three cities.

Twenty-four year-old Ruth, who now lives and works in Campbeltown, left London last Wednesday morning, cycling 95 miles to Harwich to catch the ferry to the Hook of Holland.

Day two featured a 65-mile ride from the Hook to Amsterdam before the longest run, on day three, of 112 miles to Turnhout in Belgium.

Ruth and 75 other cyclists from across the UK then had a grand entrance into Brussels on the final day after cycling 76 miles to the Belgian capital.

Collectively the group has raised nearly £125,000 for Kidney Research UK - Ruth aims to raise £1,500 for the charity by the end of September, and is well on track to do so.
