Concerns have been raised that accident and emergency facilities at the Victoria Hospital in Rothesay are being misused by some of the island’s residents.
Bute Community Council chair Grace Strong said the concerns had been aired at the Bute Practice’s patient participation group, which meets regularly to discuss issues relating to patient care on the island.
Miss Strong said “Concern was expressed by Graham Bolton [manager of the Bute Practice at Rothesay Health Centre] about abuse of the A&E facilities.
“One example was someone who had had a sore leg for three weeks suddenly appearing there when they should have been at a doctor.”
Mr Bolton told The Buteman the position on Bute was complicated by the status of the local A&E department, which is also the designated NHS24 ‘primary care emergency centre’ for the island.
“Our job is educating patients in where they should be going in certain situations,” he said.
