A busy few weeks lie ahead for the Cancer Research UK shop team in the build up to Stand Up To Cancer, with a whole host of fund-raising activities for the island community to get behind.

During the October holiday fortnight, Ettrick Bay Tearoom has kindly offered that for every cake/pudding sold, 40p of that will go to SUTC, and they’ll even match-fund the donation!

On Saturday, October 16, the local cadets will also be doing a car wash at Ettrick Bay Tearoom’s car park, will funds going back into the SUTC pot.

Bag-packing events held in Rothesay and Dunoon have helped amp up the team’s funds already, with £870 raised in Rothesay’s Co-op, and £800 in Dunoon.

The rafting trio of Alec Robertson, Mikey Robertson and Cheryl Moore - who we reported earlier this month were attempting to sail from Rothesay to Port Bannatyne in aid of SUTC - have so far raised £445, with more money still to be collected.

Also, keep an eye out in the Cancer Research UK shop windows in Montague Street on Saturday, October 3 - the mannequins will be coming to life!

All of these activities are leading up to the big event itself - Bute’s biggest photocall - which will be held at 12 noon on Friday, October 16, in Guildford Square. This year’s photo will ask participants to stand in place, forming the shape of the CRUK logo using coloured balloons. Just a £1 donation for the photo-call is asked for, and you can help make cancer history.
