Bute brother and sister Jim and Laura McAlister raised more than £3,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland by running in the Edinburgh Marathon last month.

Jim and Laura were joined by Helen and Jim Lyon at the presentation of a cheque for £3,091.20 to Dougie Gourlay from the local branch of the charity this week.

Jim completed the marathon, held on May 25, in three hours and 13 minutes, while Laura crossed the finish line in four hours and 33 minutes.

Said Laura: “Our mum and aunt both have MS, and I’ve raised funds for the society in the past. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored us and helped us to raise this fantastic sum.

“Raising this huge amount of money has definitely made all the training and pain worthwhile!”
