The clock is ticking: there are now only four weeks to go until Bute Fights Back, a sponsored walk on the island aiming to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Unlike other sponsored walks, with Bute Fights Back you can choose the distance you cover - and, perhaps more significantly, which charity you raise money for.

The event is on Saturday, August 17 and covers either a 5km walk or run within the grounds of Mount Stuart, or a 10km walk or run from Rothesay Joint Campus to the Mount Stuart grounds.

The entry forms suggest one of six charities - Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Calum’s Cabin, Cancer Support Scotland and the Brianne Roberts Trust, all with a close connection to Bute - although there’s also the option to nominate a cancer charity of your choice.

The event is the brainchild of a group of staff at Rothesay Joint Campus - in particular Rothesay Primary’s head of learning and teaching, Kirsteen MacDonald, who received the ‘all clear’ two years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Entry forms and sponsor forms are available, in exchange for a £2 registration fee, from The Buteman’s office in Victoria Street, from the Calum’s Cabin shop in Tower Street and from Print Point in West Princes Street. But don’t hang about - you’ve only got four weeks to get yourself in shape!
