Rothesay mum Kylie Rodgers has spoken to The Buteman about the benefits of breast-feeding ahead of Breastfeeding Awareness Week later this month.
Kylie had her baby Caela in Rothesay on December 15, and says she’s overcome the embarrassment she felt at the prospect of breastfeeding her son Kyren five years ago.
“When I had my son Kyren I was 19 and I had felt too embarrassed to breastfeed,” she said.
“I believed that only older people could overcome that embarrassment.
“Also, at that time I didn’t know anyone else who was doing it and I was influenced by those around me.
“However five years later, and after regretting not having breastfed Kyren, I realised that breastfeeding is more important than what other people may think of me.”
A range of local activities, including the launch of a ‘Baby Bistro Club’ playgroup to promote natural feeding, will take place on Bute during Breastfeeding Awareness Week, which runs from June 23 to 29
