A month of Stand Up To Cancer fund-raising on Bute began on Saturday with a sponsored gunge bath in Rothesay town centre.

The bath was set up in Montague Street, just a stone’s throw from the Rothesay charity shop run by Cancer Research UK, which is jointly organising the Stand Up To Cancer campaign along with Channel 4.

Local CRUK volunteer Roz Morrison was first in the bath at 11am, with several more willing bathers following over the rest of the day, and a team of volunteer collectors gathering in donations for the cause throughout.

Bute’s Stand Up To Cancer fund-raising continues later this month with a series of Saturday events, the biggest being an attempt to set a record for the world’s biggest ceilidh in a single venue on Saturday, October 18, when the Bute Ceilidh Band will provide the musical backdrop for a giant Gay Gordons in Guildford Square.

There’s also a sponsored car wash at two venues - Ettrick Bay and Rothesay’s Co-operative supermarket car park - on October 11, and a Halloween fund-raiser at the CRUK shop on October 25.
