Groups benefit from ‘For Bute’ boost

Five cheques were handed out to island groups this week by local thrift shop, ‘For Bute’, totalling £6,000.

Rothesay Academy’s ‘Nurture group’, which supports children in first year with developing social skills, received £816, while island-organisation ‘Bute Elderly Befrienders’ was given £1,500 to enable the continuation of the service which supports vulnerable elderly people in our community.

Bute County Cricket Club received a cheque for £1,000 to help the club provide in-school and after-school coaching for the island’s school-children (read more on this on page 23).

Bute Amateur Players also received £684 which will enable the purchase of new headsets/microphones, and for a professional engineer to come to the island for the group’s sound system.

Rothesay Library also received a donation of £2,000, which will be used to transfer hardcopy issues of The Buteman from 1951-1983 on to microfiche to ensure their preservation for years to come.
