The community group set up to bring a fireworks display back to the centre of Rothesay has hailed the success of Saturday night’s event.

Grant Graham from Light Up Bute spoke to The Buteman this week after an overwhelmingly positive public reaction to the group’s ‘Rock the Prom’ event on the promenade.

The event was attended by several hundred people and featured fairground rides, food, drink and live music as well as an eye-catching firework display.

“It was an absolutely brilliant night,” Grant said. “I don’t think it could have gone any better.

“The number of people who turned up to support us was unbelievable. There was no way we expected that many people, and the help we got from the police ambulance service and the council was fantastic - and the people who went out of their way to come down to Rothesay for just one night were amazing.

“At the end of the day it’s all down to the community. We put the event on, but if the community doesn’t turn up everything is pointless.

“But Saturday showed the community does appreciate what we’re doing - and we’ve already started planning for 2015.”
