Ballianlay Cottage is the subject of a planning application for permission to refurbish, alter and extend the property.

Planning permission is being sought for the refurbishment of a dilapidated cottage on the west coast of Bute.

Stuart Kay and Alison MacGuire, from Perth in Western Australia, want to refurbish, upgrade, alter and extend the former Ballianlay Cottage, at the junction of the A844 and the single-track road leading to St Ninian’s Bay.

The application papers state that discussions were held with council planning official Steven Gove in September, when it was “likely that A&B Council would encourage such works”.

A previous application by Ms MacGuire, to demolish the cottage and outbuildings and erect a new dwelling house in its place, was granted by Argyll and Bute council in March 2013, but no demolition work has been carried out on the cottage since then.
