Efforts to improve palliative care facilities for hospital patients on Bute received a boost on Friday at the annual cheese-and-wine fund-raiser organised by the island branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The evening - at which the husbands of several committee members were presssed into service as waiters - was the latest in a series of events held every year to help people on the island who have been diagnosed with cancer, or are suffering from other serious illnesses, and their families.
