Friday’s Isle of Bute Jazz Festival line-up

The 29th Isle of Bute Jazz Festival kicks off today at three town centre venues with unmissable performances from top musicians.

At 3pm newcomers ‘Jenny & The Jazz Cats’ perform at the 292 Club, the ‘Brownfield/Owen Swinging 6’ will be taking to the stage at the Victoria Hotel, and the ever popular Mike Whellans will be holding court at the Esplanade Hotel.

The Glenburn Hotel swings into action at 5pm with the ‘Savannah Jazz Band’ in the downstairs Bar while upstairs in the Ballroom the superb Dundee quintet, ‘Havana Swing’, will be fanning the flames of Hot Club jazz.

Evening performances at the Glenburn Hotel feature Liverpool-based ‘Swingology’ in the Bar from 9pm, and ‘Richard White’s Fivers’ in the Ballroom from 9.30pm – both finishing at 11.30pm.

Friday evening at the 292 Club will be a good place to see ‘Penman’s Jazzmen’ from 8.30pm; the ‘Chicago Teddy Bears’ will be at the Victoria Hotel, and ‘Jazz Main at the Esplanade’ - start times for both is 9pm.

Anth Purdy is appearing at Gamba’s Bar from 8pm, while Craigmore Bowling Club hosts Martin Bennett’s ‘Old Green River Band’, also from 8pm.

The Ticket Office/Shop at 30-31 East Princes Street, next door to Glens Euronics, will be open from 10am to 9pm.
