A FORMER resident of Rothesay will return to the island for a holiday in the next few days – and is hoping to get in touch with some of her friends and work colleagues from the early 1970s.
Pat Smithson – now Pat Mercer – got in touch with us this week to say she would be staying at the Glenburn Hotel from September 9-13.
Pat lived and worked in Rothesay in the final days of the manual telephone, and emailed two photographs from her time in the town – one, reproduced here, shows a group of ladies at work in the town’s telephone exchange, and the other, posted on our Facebook page, is of a social occasion, which Pat thinks was the wedding of a Marie Hanson.
Other names Pat recalls from her Rothesay days are those of Alison Mowatt and the exchange supervisor, May Bagshawe.
The photographs can be viewed on The Buteman’s page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/thebuteman) or on screen at our office between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Thursday (9am-4pm on Friday).
If you remember Pat and would like to get back in touch while she’s in Rothesay, she can be contacted on 07875 834895.
