A former Rothesay Academy pupil has joined the school’s present-day XL group on the shortlist for the Prince’s Trust ‘Celebrate Success’ awards for Scotland.

Twenty-four year-old Harrison Gibson, who now lives in Edinburgh, is one of the finalists in the Young Achiever of the Year category.

Mum Sandy said: “Harrison moved to Edinburgh almost two years ago but had a really hard time getting work.

“The JobCentre put him in touch with the Prince’s Trust and thanks to them he’s been accepted on to a plumbing apprenticeship with Miller Construction.

“The Prince’s Trust has also made him an ambassador, which means he spends time talking to other young people about what the Prince’s Trust does and could do for them.”

As we reported earlier this week, Rothesay Academy’s S3 XL group has been chosen as one of the finalists in the Community Impact category of this year’s awards.

The winners will receive their prizes in Edinburgh on November 4.
