Rothesay's flood defence scheme keeps any exceptionally high tides confined to the seafront - as here, in January 2014 - but some insurance companies deem the whole of the town a flood risk.

A Rothesay couple have been told their seafront home in the town is a flood risk - even though it’s well above the high water mark and has never flooded in the past.

George Docherty told The Buteman he and his wife had been turned down by the TSB for a home insurance renewal quote at their property in Mountstuart Road.

“We were told this was due, in some way, to the erection of the flood defences in the town centre,” he said.
