Aimee Gilmour, seen here at the Open Mic UK Scottish final in Glasgow in October, has now won a place in the grand final of the contest, to be held at the O2 Arena in London in January.

“Overwhelming” - that’s how Rothesay girl Aimee Gilmour described the feeling when she found out she’d won a place in the national final of the Open Mic UK talent competition.

Aimee - who performed under the stage name Aimee Scarlett - will sing at the grand final at the O2 Arena in London on January 19 after wowing the judges at the north of England and Scotland regional final on Saturday.

“I wouldn’t say I was confident of getting through to the final,” Aimee told The Buteman, “because it’s only a small number of people who go through, but nothing went wrong on stage, which is always good!”
