The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance across Argyll and Bute fell by 5 per cent in January, according to new official statistics.

A total of 960 claimants were recorded in January, a fall of 55 on the same month in 2015.

The drop in claimant numbers was even larger among the 18-24 year-old age group, which had exactly two hundred claimants in January - a fall of 20 people, or 9 per cent, on January 2015.

Billy Walker, partnership manager for JobCentre Plus in Argyll and Bute, said; “We’re doing much more early intervention work with people who are seeking employment along with the local authority and other partnership agencies, and these figures show the results of that.”
