Extra ferries for Bute Highland Games

CALEDONIAN MacBrayne have announced that capacity on the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay ferry route will be significantly increased this Saturday, August 20, to cope with the anticipated extra traffic for the Bute Highland Games.

The former Rothesay ‘streaker’, MV Saturn, will be recalled from her summer duties on the Ardrossan-Brodick route to provide additional sailings in the morning and evening on the day of the Games.

Route manager Brian Fulton told us on Monday that although the timetable for Saturday’s additional services had yet to be confirmed, the Saturn would provide “two or three” extra sailings in the morning, and the same number in the evening, to provide “a far greater capacity than in previous years”.

The Saturn will also be used to provide additional passenger-only capacity between Gourock and Dunoon on Saturday, August 27 for the Cowal Highland Gathering - less than two months after operating the last vehicular ferry service between the two town centres.
