Solution to Port Bannatyne boat problem?

Owners of boats left apparently abandoned for months at a time on public roads on Bute could have their craft - and accompanying trailers - seized by Argyll and Bute Council.

The problem - a perennial winter headache on Bute - arose again recently after complaints that the number of boats and trailers parked along the seafront in Port Bannatyne had reached double figures.

Sergeant Dave Wilkinson told members of Bute Community Council: “We are trying to identify the owners of these boats and trailers, and once we have identified the owners, they will be asked to remove them.

“However, if we cannot identify the owners, or the trailers are deemed to be dangerous, we have been told by the council’s amenity services warden that they will be removed and securely stored.

“The owners will then have to pay to retrieve their property.”
