The Bute in Bloom members who attended this week’s Beautiful Scotland awards have admitted they were ‘gobsmacked’ at winning the competition’s top prize.

The community group beat cities, towns and villages across Scotland to win the coveted Rosebowl - as well as the Community Participation Award and the Dave Kerr Trophy for the best coastal town in the country-wide contest.

The trophies were accepted on Bute in Bloom’s behalf by group members Marlene Hill and Iain Gillespie at the Perth Concert Hall last Thursday.

“We didn’t expect it at all,” Marlene said. “It should have dawned on us after we won the other awards, but we were completely oblivious. We were both totally gobsmacked.”
