The team behind a Rothesay thrift shop set up to benefit good causes on Bute has spread its wings by tidying up a gap site in the centre of the town.

The ‘For Bute’ team decided to tackle the empty space between the branches of Superdrug and The Original Factory Shop in Montague Street after becoming frustrated at the ugly tangle of rubbish, weeds and debris which used to occupy the site.

Now the space has been opened up and decorated with a small planter using compost donated by The Original Factory Shop.

Marlene Hill from For Bute said: “We cleared the site and cut out all the weeds a couple of weeks ago but now we’ve finished off the planting too.

“It only took us four hours - we’re a hard working bunch!”

For Bute’s thrift shop in Victoria Street opened its doors to the public in March and presented its first cheque only three weeks later - for £1,100 to Bute Community Links.
