£10,583 graduate grant for Bute Community Land Company

Highlands and Islands Enterprise has approved the award of a £10,583 grant to the Bute Community Land Company.

The grant represents the HIE contribution towards BCLC’s participation in HIE’s own graduate placement programme.

The programme is available to businesses and social enterprises which are ‘account managed’ by HIE - meaning, according to HIE’s website, “clients [who] have the ambition and potential to trade outwith the region and achieve high growth, or to deliver significant benefits within a fragile area” - and are intended to add to the work of the business in a way measurable through increased turnover or sales, cost savings or new jobs, rather than simply doing ‘more of the same’.

Each company participating in the programme also contributes towards the overall cost, in addition to the funds provided by HIE.

Emma Cooper, forest manager with BCLC subsidiary Bute Forest Ltd, told The Buteman the money was already being used to fund the forester’s post occupied since July 30 by Ben Robinson, who completed a Masters in environmental forestry at Bangor University in Wales earlier this year.
