North Bute Primary School's sponsored walkers prepare to set off from Rothesay at the start of their three-day trek along the West Island Way.

Pupils, parents, staff and friends of North Bute Primary in Port Bannatyne are spending this holiday weekend on a sponsored walk of the West Island Way to raise money for the school.

The intrepid group set off from Guildford Square in Rothesay by minibus at 9am on Saturday, bound for Kilchattan Bay and the southern starting-point of the 28-mile path.

Teacher Rhona Watson told The Buteman that the group was planning to split the walk into three sections, covering Kilchattan Bay to Loch Fad on Saturday, Loch Fad to Ettrick Bay on Sunday and Ettrick Bay to Port Bannatyne via Rhubodach on Monday - so if any participants are slightly less than bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when school starts back on Tuesday morning, now you know why...

Before setting off the group said a big thank you to Loch Fad Fisheries, Ettrick Bay Tearoom, the Port Inn, the Anchor Tavern and chauffeuse Wendy Brownlie for their support
