A group of Rothesay Academy pupils are organising a Christmas hamper appeal to bring some festive cheer to vulnerable members of the community on Bute.

The school’s XL group has launched an appeal for ‘non-perishable’ items such as tinned, dried and pre-packed food, which will be delivered to people around the island before the end of the school term.

In addition to the Academy itself, donations of food for the appeal can also be left at a number of drop-off points in the town. So far Print Point, the Galatea Bar, Gamba’s Bar and St Andrew’s Church have agreed to act as collection points for donations, and it is hoped that more will be added to the list in the next few days.

Donations can be dropped off at any time until Thursday, December 12, with the hampers made up and delivered the following week.

“We want to show we care about the less fortunate people in the community, and we just want to help them have a good Christmas,” one pupil said.
