Bute’s new representative in the Scottish Youth Parliament says he’s looking forward to taking up his seat in three months’ time.

Rothesay Academy pupil Jamie Murray spoke to The Buteman after he was confirmed as having won one of the two SYP seats representing Argyll and Bute.

Jamie, who turned 17 the day after the result was announced, will officially become a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) at the first meeting of the new parliament in June.

“It would have been over-confident to expect that I would automatically get in - everyone had an equal chance - but I knew I’d tried as hard as I could,” he said.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it. It might be a bit intimidating at first, but that’ll be the same for a lot of the new members - and it’ll be a great experience.”
