A Rothesay Academy pupil has been nominated to receive a top award from the Prince’s Trust.

After two years as part of the Trust’s XL project at the Academy, 16-year-old Michael Mitchell is one of only three young people from across Scotland in the running for the organisation’s ‘educational achiever of the year’ award.

He’s also been accepted as a Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador for Scotland, making him the only Scottish ambassador this year to be chosen while still at school.

Rothesay Academy youth worker Ailsa Cassidy, who leads the XL project at the school, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with Michael’s progress. At the start of XL he was always in trouble, always being put out of class, and he’s now becoming a mentor for younger pupils who are having problems.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement. I’m really proud of him, and so is the whole school.”
