Rothesay was bathed in colour on Friday afternoon at the annual Christmas lights switch-on at Guildford Square.

Ricky Harrison from Mount Stuart whipped up some festive spirit among the crowd before inviting the Bute Schools Choir, which incorporates the island’s three primary schools, to entertain everyone with a couple of renditions of well-known Christmas tunes.

All that remained was for Rothesay Academy’s head boy and head girl - Lex Elliott and Marjorie Hogarth - to do the official honours, flipping the switch to turn on the Christmas lights at the square, the ‘Merry Christmas’ sign at Rothesay Pier and on the tree in Montague Street.
