A new permanent head teacher for Rothesay Joint Campus will not be in place until August at the earliest, Bute Community Council was told this week.

Local councillor Isobel Strong told BCC’s February meeting that a temporary head would be put in place until June - with a permanent appointment “hopefully” to follow from the start of the new school year in August.

Current head teacher Patricia McCurrach will leave the post in March - only five months after taking up the job - due to a change in her personal circumstances.

Councillor Strong said: “I attended the recent parent council meeting at Rothesay Joint Campus and there was disappointment that the recently-appointed head teacher was resigning, albeit for personal reasons.

“There have been too many head teachers/principals for stability and progress at the Campus.”
