A former pupil at Rothesay Academy plans to travel to Fiji later this year to work on the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad programme.

Laura Sprowl, now studying international events management at Glasgow Caledonian University, is seeking sponsorship to enable her to take part in the programme by completing essential volunteer work in a Fijian village.

VESA and Laura will work in conjunction with the villagers and the village chief in addressing the major issues faced by the village and the local schools such as a lack of fresh running water, dilapidated schools and generally poor infrastructure.

VESA’s Fiji programme sees participating students undertaking a variety of activities including building rain water catchment tanks, teaching basic English lessons, restoring school equipment and buildnigs and helping to run workshops demonstrating proper hygiene techniques.
