The Scottish referendum may be exercising the minds of most of Bute’s voters - but it isn’t the only poll taking place on the island on Thursday.
Voting opened at 11am at Apple Tree Nursery in Rothesay for elections to their pupil council, with six pre-school children hoping to win enough support to become the chair of the group.
The six candidates are Isla Fisher, Louie MacDonald, Amelia Whitelaw, Jack Cameron, Sarah Home and Jacob Duncan.
Isla plans to teach the nursery’s children about recycling, while Louie wants to help others play football and have fun.
Amelia told us of her plan to help everyone learn their numbers, while Jack’s aim is to teach them to use their walking feet and to tell stories.
Sarah’s idea is to teach everyone to do handstands, while Jacob wants all the children at the nursery to be able to write their own name.
* Update 3pm Thursday: Apple Tree have just called to let us know that the winner of the election was Jack Cameron. All six children will have a role on the nursery’s pupil council but congratulations to Jack on winning - apparently by only one vote. Will the referendum result be just as close...?
