The deadline set by Argyll and Bute Council for the removal of caravans from a Rothesay car park passed this week.

The council set a deadline of September 1 for the caravans’ owners to remove them from the West Church car park in the town’s Argyle Street after complaints were made by members of Bute Community Council.

By the time the deadline passed, the number of caravans in the car park had fallen from four at the time of the complaints to two.

Following the complaints, the council put up a sign at the main (west) entrance to the car park as a reminder that caravans were not permitted, adding to the existing sign at the Chapelhill Road (east) entrance.

After the September 1 deadline was set a council spokesperson said: “Thereafter it will be assumed that the caravan or trailer has been abandoned and legal proceedings will result in a notice to be served followed by the uplift, removal and destruction of same, and the sum of £300 recoverable from the owner under the terms of the legislation.”
