A MEETING is taking place in Rothesay on Wednesday in the hope of thrashing out a future for a former church building in the heart of the town.
The meeting was called by Rothesay resident Hugh Cole, who has owned the former Free Church building in Chapelhill Road since 2004.
Mr Cole has told The Buteman of his growing anger at what he sees as the “obstruction” from several parties of his attempts to convert part of the building into a flat.
Argyll and Bute Council’s planning, conservation, building control and roads departments were all present at the meeting, along with Historic Scotland.
Mr Cole’s most recent attempt to gain planning permission for the building’s conversion into a combined business premises and dwelling house was rejected by Argyll and Bute Council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee in August because it would be out of keeping with the age of the building and there would not have been enough parking spaces.
