Police in Rothesay are appealing for witnesses after a man walking his dog was assaulted in the town in the early hours of Boxing Day.

The 54-year-old man was confronted in Battery Place at 1.10am by a group of people, one of whom hit him several times about the head and body.

Meanwhile, witnesses are also being sought to a number of other incidents in Rothesay over the Christmas holiday period, including:

- the theft of a quantity of cash and medication from a second-floor flat in Montague Street between 10am and 1.30pm on December 21;

- vandalism to the front porch of a property in Eastlands Road between 4.30pm on December 22 and 11.15am on December 28;

- vandalism to a shop in Victoria Street in which the glass front windows of the premises were smashed at 11pm on December 26.
