A Paisley man was fined £200 for behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards a local barmaid at Rothesay Sheriff Court on Monday.

Edward Riddell, (40), address given as 39 Kilnside Road, Paisley, had entered the Palace Bar in East Princes Street on June 16 at around 12.45am, said Depute Fiscal Lindy Scaife.

He ordered a pint and took the drink outside the premises, and was instructed by the barmaid to bring the pint back indoors. He replied that he understood, and moved back inside the doorway, only to move back out into the street a few moments later.

The barmaid approached a second time and asked him to return inside with the drink, and Riddell became aggressive, shouting “You’re a f*****g idiot”, reducing the barmaid to tears.

She phoned the police and officers traced Riddell near to the pub at around 12.55am, witnessing him putting an empty pint glass behind a parked car. He gave no reply to caution and charge.

Riddell, who was not present in court, pleaded guilty to the charge by letter, and was fined £200 by Sheriff Ruth Anderson.
