Court: drunk man had air rifle in Rothesay street

A man was found in possession of an air rifle while he was lying drunk and injured in a street in the centre of Rothesay, the town’s sheriff court heard this week.

Former Rothesay resident John Junner (54), of 19 Cloan Avenue, Drumchapel, admitted being drunk while in possession of a firearm in the town’s Watergate on the afternoon of April 4, when police saw him lying in the street, bleeding from a head wound and smelling heavily of alcohol.

Officers noted a carry case strapped across Junner’s body and found the firearm inside when they unzipped the bag.

Junner’s agent, Brian Lanigan, said drink had “been [Junner’s] curse for many years”, but pointed out that the rifle was unloaded and was being held in a proper carry case at the time police found him.
