A Rothesay-based Royal Mail employee is being investigated following accusations that he withheld around 6,000 letters from delivery, with some post dating back to 2011.
Some island residents have recently received letters from Royal Mail which stated that an employee of theirs had been withholding mail, and to offer apologies for the condition of their post.
We contacted Royal Mail for clarification and were told by a spokesperson: “Royal Mail can confirm that an employee at Rothesay Delivery Office has been suspended and our enquiries into the intentional delay of mail are ongoing.
“Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hardworking and who do all they can to protect the mail and deliver it safely. The safety and security of mail is of the utmost importance to this business and Royal Mail will not allow the actions of any individual to damage the good reputation of our thousands of hard-working postmen and women.”
